Do I need battery storage with a commercial solar system?
Not always. Solar alone serves load that runs while the sun is up. Storage earns its place when you have load outside those hours, a demand charge driven by a peak that solar does not reach, or a process that cannot tolerate an outage. A grid-tied solar plant shuts down during a power failure by design, so it is storage — not solar — that keeps load alive and shortens diesel generator runtime. The honest test is your load profile and your outage history, not a rule of thumb.
